On the other side, the independent hotel: same craft, often more soul, but watching its operation in scattered pieces, a spreadsheet here, last night’s close there, the manager’s memory as the only “database.” This closing essay is about how that border dissolved. To cross what happened in reservations with what happened in the cash drawer, someone had to export two files, clean them, match them by hand and build a report. Crossing, calculating and totaling: what used to be an analyst’s craft is now dragged with a finger.
